Windham County Traffic Warrants Explained
Windham tickets never land in municipal criminal courts. Connecticut handles the ticket stage itself: the statewide Centralized Infractions Bureau takes a payment, a not-guilty plea, or an eligible Online Ticket Review request. Miss the answer date, though, and the matter moves to the Superior Court location serving the town. For all 15 Windham Judicial District towns, that adult motor-vehicle court is GA 11 at 120 School Street in Danielson. Once the case is in court, the problem gets a name. The clerk may describe it as Failure to Pay or Plead, Failure to Appear, a bench warrant, or another order, depending on what happened after transfer. Confirm the exact term with the clerk rather than guessing. And skip the driving record for this question. It cannot tell you whether a Windham County warrant exists, has been recalled, or carries a bond condition. The docket at Danielson is the only place that answers that.
CIB Fields for a Windham Ticket
The official CIB ticket interface asks for details printed on the citation itself. Enter the full ticket number, its check digit, and the first three letters of the surname or company name. Windham County drivers can note the identifier as ticket number + check digit. Then hit the button labeled “Find.”
| Field | What to enter | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ticket number | Every character from the citation | Locates the ticket-stage record |
| Check digit | The separate printed check digit | Validates the ticket identifier |
| Name prefix | First three surname or company letters | Matches the cited party |
| Answer date | Read from the citation | Shows whether ordinary CIB options may remain |
The captured state interface shows those search controls.

Keep expectations straight. That lookup page answers ticket questions, not warrant questions, and it is no arrest-warrant list for Windham County. Electronic tickets reach the system in three to five business days. Handwritten ones take five to seven.
Checking for a Traffic Warrant
Match the channel to the stage of the case. Search CIB while the citation still sits there. If the answer date has passed or the record is unavailable, call CIB at 860-263-2750 or write traffictickets@jud.ct.gov. Then phone the Danielson criminal clerk at 860-779-8480 and ask three things: whether the case transferred, whether a Failure to Pay or Plead or FTA entry exists, and what the current docket requires. Two public databases help but both have limits. The Judicial Branch criminal and motor-vehicle case lookup may locate a docket, yet it is not the official record, and the public outstanding-warrant search is partial. It currently warns that FTA warrants will not be displayed until further notice. For service questions or a recent complaint, call the agency that wrote the ticket: Windham/Willimantic Police, Plainfield Police, Putnam Police, a resident trooper, or State Police Troop D as appropriate. There is no Windham County sheriff channel for this.
From Answer Date to Danielson Court
The answer date decides which office can still act. Before it runs, a person may pay in full, plead not guilty, or use online review if eligible. Understand what payment means: it is a nolo contendere plea with an effect similar to guilty. There is no standard payment plan, per the CIB FAQ, and full payment is due by the answer date. A not-guilty plea can go in online, by signed mail, or by phone during CIB hours. Windham County drivers who wait past the deadline hand the matter to Danielson.
- Police issue the complaint ticket with an answer date.
- CIB receives the ticket and offers the authorized response choices.
- No response allows transfer to the Superior Court serving the issuing town.
- Danielson sends the hearing notice and controls the transferred docket.
- The court may notify DMV in a motor-vehicle matter.
After transfer, do not mail an ordinary payment to CIB without confirmation. Ask the Windham County clerk at Danielson where the case sits, and whether an appearance, reopening, payment, bond, or another order applies.
Inside a Traffic Warrant Record
A ticket-stage record and a court-warrant record show different fields. Keep the original citation. Its identifiers are the fastest route into CIB, and once a Windham County case transfers, the docket and court status control.
| Ticket identifier | Complete number and check digit, such as 000000000-0 as a format example only. |
|---|---|
| Named party | Name or company as printed on the citation. |
| Issuing town | Determines the receiving Superior Court location. |
| Answer date | Deadline to use the ticket-stage response routes. |
| Docket and court | Danielson GA 11 identifiers after a Windham transfer. |
| Court status | Appearance, reopening, FTA, warrant, payment, or release instruction as applicable. |
The public screen may omit a bond or a later order. Ask the clerk to read the live Windham County docket and confirm the next date. Never infer status from a stale result.
When a Ticket Is Not Online Yet
A missing fresh ticket is often just normal entry time. Wait the official three-to-five-business-day period for an electronic citation, or five-to-seven for a handwritten one, then retry the exact printed fields. If the answer date is close, do not let that delay push you past the deadline. Call CIB with the Windham County ticket in hand.
Quick answer: A blank CIB result does not clear an overdue ticket; CIB and Danielson must confirm its present stage.
Already transferred? Save every hearing notice, clerk receipt, and email. Those items let a Windham County clerk separate the original ticket from the new court docket. They also prove required action was completed.
How to Pay or Lift a Traffic Warrant
First find out where the case sits, CIB or Danielson. Eligible CIB payments go by check or money order to the Centralized Infractions Bureau, P.O. Box 5044, Hartford, CT 06102-5044, payable to Clerk of Superior Court. Never mail cash. Online payments take a card. A transferred Windham County case follows the local court's current instruction instead.
- Search the ticket with the complete identifier and name prefix.
- Call CIB, then Danielson if the record is absent or overdue.
- Ask whether a warrant issued and whether the $60 reopening fee applies.
- Follow the clerk's direction to reopen, plead, appear, pay, or post court-set bond.
- Obtain a receipt, next date, and confirmation that the warrant status changed.
- If DMV acted, complete the separate restoration process before driving.
Before paying: Confirm which office holds the case; paying the old ticket alone may not recall a transferred court warrant.
Windham County runs no official walk-in surrender schedule for traffic matters, and no traffic amnesty. A lawyer can help plan an appearance when arrest or bond is possible.
Danielson Handles Windham Traffic Court
The Danielson GA 11 clerk confirms warrant status for Windham County adult motor-vehicle and infraction files. The public line is 860-779-8480. CIB stays the ticket-stage contact. Police agencies can discuss the original citation or service, but their records desks never replace the court docket.
| Office | Role | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| CIB | Ticket payment, plea, online review, transfer | 860-263-2750 |
| Danielson GA 11 | Transferred Windham motor-vehicle case | 860-779-8480 |
| Troop D | Service for many county towns | 860-779-4900 |
| Windham Police | Windham/Willimantic police record | 860-465-3135 |
| Plainfield Police | Plainfield police record | 860-564-0808 |
| Putnam Police | Putnam police record | 860-928-6565 |
Want the incident report? A focused police records request may obtain an available copy. The court clerk still owns warrant status. Connecticut FOI rules do not turn a police report into the official Windham County court record.
Traffic Warrants, FTA, and License Holds
A missed response and a warrant are linked, but they are not the same thing in Windham County. Skip a ticket and the case moves into court. A judge can then enter a failure-to-appear order or another warrant-related order, and in a motor-vehicle case the court can also notify DMV. Fixing the court case alone does not mean DMV has restored your license; the suspension can live on after the docket closes.
| Issue | Who controls it | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Ticket response | CIB | Ticket interface or CIB contact |
| Transferred case or warrant | Danielson Superior Court | Clerk and live docket |
| License suspension | Connecticut DMV | Suspension notice and Driver Services |
| Police service | Mapped police agency | Originating agency confirmation |
The DMV suspension and restoration page explains the separate restoration step.

Once DMV suspends, it lists a $175 restoration fee, and processing can take up to ten business days. Acting before suspension can rescind the notice entirely. Check both the court and DMV before you drive again. Windham County courts handle more than traffic, too: under §51-164r, failing to pay or plead on a non-motor-vehicle infraction can bring misdemeanor and arrest consequences, so the court route still matters.
Proof After Windham Warrant Clearance
Paper is your protection after clearing a Windham County warrant. Keep the paid receipt, any reopening order, a bond receipt if you posted one, and written notice of the next court date. Ask Danielson when the docket should show the recall, service, or reopening. If DMV was notified, file its restoration confirmation separately. One warning: a portal entry vanishing from view proves less than a clerk-confirmed docket entry. That distinction guards against a common mistake, treating one payment as proof that every connected status changed at once. Court records, police warrant systems, and DMV files can each update on their own schedules. The companion Windham County municipal warrant explanation shows why the issuing office here is Superior Court rather than a town court.
